This is the original product that Jensen used to line the upper side walls of the engine bay and bonnet insulation.  You can see it here between the bonnet seal and fuse box. Ours does not have the checker board look, it is a light splater textured look. Just a good ol' can of contact cement and you'll be having fun in no time!
